Start a local chapter

We are a global community of young Romanian professionals committed to contributing to Romania’s development by connecting human capital with ideas. Founded in 2008, we are headquartered in Bucharest, Romania and have local chapters in cities across the world.

Are you serious about starting a chapter in your city?

If so, we’d love to hear from you. Please read through the following information to get a better idea of how GRASP operates. Once you finish, fill out the form at the bottom to receive the application form via email.

What should you expect as a Local Chapter leader

Q: How much time I would need to dedicate as a Local Chapter local leader?

A: It’s really up to you. As this is an entirely voluntary position, you are responsible for the time you put in towards creating a community of like-minded individuals. However, on average, a local leader spends between 20 and 30 hours a month building their community and preparing for events and initiatives.

Q: Can I have a team to support planning and delivery of events and initiatives?

A: We highly encourage each Local Chapter leader to form a team of 2 or 3 people to ensure smooth running of all initiatives.

Q: Do Local Chapters need to be legally registered?

A: Some Local Chapters do establish organisations to keep finances in order or to apply for certain types of funding.

Q: Are there any costs/fees associated with running a Local Chapter?

A: All Local Chapters usually cover their events and/or initiatives costs primarily through local sponsors. There are no application fees, upfront fees or any ongoing fees to headquarters which also means that all local sponsorship money or donations will stay with the Local Chapter.

Q: Can there be more than one Local Chapter per city?

A: The answer is simple, no. We want to make sure we have a thriving community in each city we are present in. That’s why we only want one Local Chapter per city.

Q: I live in a small city with a small community of young Romanian professionals. Can I still apply to start a Local Chapter?

A: You’re more than welcome to apply. However, as part of the application process we will work together on assessing the potential of that community to thrive.

Q: What kind of resources does a Local Chapter receive?

A: Each of our Local Chapter receives our GRASP branded assets (PowerPoint slides, logos, brand guidelines, sample marketing materials), a welcome pack including guidelines and learnings from our Local Chapter leaders, and access to our internal communications channels.

Q: How long is the commitment for being a Local Chapter leader?

A: There isn’t a time limit. If you feel you can’t put in the time or resources needed to keep the community thriving then we will work with you on finding a suitable replacement.

Application process

Q: What is the type of information you are asking for as part of the application process?

A: The application process includes a written section and a video.

Q: What are some of the qualities you look for in a Local Chapter leader?

A: We want our Local Chapter leaders to:

    • make things happen: organising a Local Chapter and building a thriving community is not an easy task and involves many moving pieces. We are looking for someone who can get started, figure things out, and make it work;
    • be flexible: if you’re looking to join an organisation that has everything ready for you, we’re probably not a good fit. Our global team will do its best to support you with limited time and resources;
    • share our purpose and vision: we are looking for someone who is committed to building a thriving community of young Romanian professionals with the aim of facilitating knowledge sharing.
    • a connector: our Local Chapter leaders around the world are building thriving communities by connecting like minded individuals. We want you to make the extra effort required to proactively reach out and gather a diverse Romanian community.

Q: Is applying for hosting a Local Chapter first come first serve?

A: Not always. In order for someone to be successful we need to make sure they tick all the boxes. For this reason, we encourage you to send in your application as soon as possible. If we find a Local Chapter leader we really like, we’ll allow them to start a GRASP chapter.
